On October 21st the Lake County Tennis Association held its annual members meeting. Over 40 members attended. It was the first meeting held at the tennis and pickleball facility on Gard Street. Holding the meeting in October was possible due to the change in the start of Association fiscal year from January 1st to October 1st.
Holding the meeting on the courts allowed members to play both tennis and pickleball before and after the meeting. As part of the meeting the first pickleball tournament was held. 16 members participated. In the morning preliminary games were played to determine who would be partnered with whom.
Following the morning preliminary game the business portion of the meeting was held. President Mike Shay gave a short presentation of past activities followed by the election of a new Board of Directors. The elected Board included incumbencies: Mike Shay, Madeline Murphy, Andy Dobusch, Connie Wright, Kim Shay, Charlotte Disney, Ellen Karnowski, Jay Murphy and a new member Laurie Baum.
Lunch was served following the meeting. Lunch consisted of hot dogs, chips, watermelon slice and banana, drinks and cookies.
After the preliminary matches players were paired up into two 8 player divisions. Following lunch semi-final matches were played in each division follow by the final matches. The players in the final’s matches included:
The four winners were: Division 1 – Greg Hanson and Laurie Baum; Division 2 – Brandon Thomas and Anita Swanson. The winners received a hat and $30 gift card.
It was great fun for all.
